This journey gives us a real flavour of the diversity of the continent. We visit old colonial towns, including the national monument of Villa de Leyva with its peaceful and charming cobbled streets surrounding one of the biggest plazas in all South America; Cartegena, arguably the most beautiful & charming of all South American cities with its fortifications and walled centre, colourful buildings and winding streets, is our base as we have a chance to relax on the beaches, sample the excellent seafood, dive and snorkel in the warm clear waters and take a trip to the beautiful Rosario coral archipelago and national park. Busy Bogota with its excellent gold museum, Quito and Caracas are a stark contrast, as is the wildlife haven and low lands of the Llanos in Venezuela. Traditional and handicraft markets are found in Otavalo and Quito and a multitude of activities are available in the activity Mecca of Merida in the northern Andes. Always plenty to do and see, this trip will leave you with a yearning to return to this amazing continent.
