Day	Destination	Description
Days 1-3	Norcia to Roccaporena	Although its suffered from numerous earthquakes over the centuries, Norcia retains much of its medieval charm. Spend time exploring its churches and castles or take a day trip to Castelluccio for a walk across the Piano Grande, possibly the most inspiring highland plain in Europe. Wander through oak woods and follow farm tracks across low hills to the small town of Cascia. Join an ancient pilgrim path that meanders along the gorge to Roccaporena, birthplace of St Rita, patron saint of desperate causes.
Days 4-5	Roccaporena to Scheggino	Traverse hills and woodlands famous for their Umbrian truffles, and stop to marvel at the Renaissance frescoes at Gavelli. The path becomes an old dirt road heading steeply down to Scheggino, a quaint town nestled by the river Nera. Tiny canals criss-crossing the town make it all the more picturesque. Rest tired muscles in the tiny medieval town or take a walk to the Valnerina Valley and see the superb monastery of San Pietro in Valle.
Days 6-8	Scheggino to Spoleto	Ramble along a disused but once famous railway, a remarkable example of 19th century engineering, before descending through chestnut woods, farmland and olive groves to enter Spoleto. The entrance to the city is across the Ponte delle Torri, possibly the most elegant approach on foot to any city in Italy. Spoleto has lots of delightful churches, lovely buildings and museums. The final day is free to explore the city's medieval sights, enjoy its fine works of art and architecture, and of course, partake in the famous Italian pastime of shopping.
