This is the entry point to Tanzania, home to an incredible variety of wildlife and spectacular natural sights. | | Day 2 | Lake Manyara | Cross the Great Rift Valley floor to Mto Wa Mbu to check out its colourful markets. Then continue on to Lake Manyara National Park, known for its unique tree-climbing lions and thriving hippo population. | | Days 3-4 | Serengeti National Park | Enter the Serengeti, home to large herds of zebras and wildebeest and the sleek predators which prey on them. Spot as many animals as possible on an excellent game drive. Then let the calls of nocturnal birds lull you to sleep. At dawn, an optional balloon ride over the park offers a chance to watch the animals of the African savannah awaken. | | Day 5 | Ngorongoro Crater | Visit the Olduvai Gorge, home to earliest man, before driving to the crater rim to set up camp. The Ngorongoro Crater is home to a huge animal population so keep an eye out for the Big Five and more. | | Day 6 | Karatu | A half-day game drive along the crater floor puts you right in the middle of the action - with a bit of luck, there might even be a lion closing in for the kill. | | Day 7 | Tarangire National Park | Wonderfully unspoilt, the Tarangire National Park is home to herds of enormous elephants. At sunset, the unique baobab trees are silhouetted against purple skies. | | Day 8 | Nairobi | The adventure ends in Nairobi, where the colourful cultures of Kenya's many tribes and modern life come together. |
